Boosting Collaboration with Technology

Spring break is over and we're headed into the home stretch. When the energy gets low, it's time to collaborate in your classroom! Here are three tools to boost collaboration among teachers and students.

Google Hangouts Chat: An Easier Chat Experience

Google recently released the beta version of their Google Hangouts Chat. It's a web- and app-based chat platform that allows efficient creation of user groups, conversation history saving and integrating useful bots. These can help you post a quick GIF, integrate a Google Drive file for easy collaboration and schedule appointments. You can head to chat.google.com to try it yourself, or you can learn more about it in the G Suite Learning Center.

Project Pals: Visual Collaboration for Project-Based Learning

Project Pals is a visual collaboration platform for project-based learning. If you'd like to try PBL in your classroom, this could be a tool to help you make the most of your journey! It's a tool designed to help students visualize the complexities of multiphase projects. It also contains Common Core-aligned projects that can easily be tailored to your subject area standards. It's free for individual teachers for up to 20 projects and 50 students.

Google Forms: Choose Your Own Adventure!

This might not be exactly related to collaboration, but I saw a great resource and wanted to share it so we're gonna go with it. Work with me here (there's the collaboration!).

Google Forms is a great tool we know and love, but it's easy to create your very own "choose your own adventure" style game with it! (You can try a simple one here.) More importantly, your students can, too. You can invite students to showcase what they learned in a unit with an interactive story/game experience for others to enjoy. Sylvia Duckworth (of Sketchnotes for Educators fame) put together a fantastic and thorough resource for putting together your own Google Slides adventure--she also includes steps for creating them with other Google tools like Docs and Slides! Check it out here.

Welcome back! Contact me or your DLS with any questions you have!
